Cruising on the open highway with the wind in your hair is one of the most liberating experiences you will have in your lifetime. However, you will need to be prepared if you are thinking about going on a long ride on your motorcycle in the near future. What are some of the items that you should consider bringing with you?

1) Bring Your Water Bottle

You will want something to drink when you are on the road for hours on end. Although there may be rest stops available if you drive on the highway, this may not be the case if you ride in more rural areas. Even if you do drive on the highway, there may be stretches where you don’t have the chance to stop and get something to drink.

2) Have Your Headphones Handy

Having headphones can serve two purposes when you are on the highway. First, they may be able to cancel out some of the noise that you will experience due to the wind as well as the engine noise that may be produced by the bike. Long periods of exposure to noise pollution can permanently damage your hearing. Second, they can be useful because you won’t have any other way to listen to music without them. There is little chance that you would be able to hear your music unless your headphones are in because the volume on your phone or radio will be easily drowned out by outside noise.

3) Don’t Forget the First Aid Kit

An emergency kit can make it easier for you to keep yourself in good shape if you suffer a small cut or get into a minor accident. Having emergency supplies such as a tire inflator or a tire sealer can help you get back on the road if you encounter gravel or other debris on the road.

If you find yourself stranded with no gas and no way to get home, having some energy bars and a container to put water in can help you stay alive until help arrives. The energy bars will give you the calories needed to survive without taking up much space in your emergency kit.

4) Wear Adequate Protection

Whether you decide to wear knee and elbow pads depends on how conservative you are as a rider. If you don’t think that you are at risk for falling, you may decide to just wear your helmet. In some states, you may not be required to wear a helmet at all. However, it is always a good idea to have additional padding in a backpack just in case you decide that you want it later on. Depending on where you got your loan, your motorcycle finance company may require you to wear pads while on your bike.

Going on a motorcycle trip can be a lot of fun. Those who are going for a ride need to make sure that they stay safe and are prepared for anything that might happen. It’s always a good idea to get your motorcycle serviced before a big trip (more on that here). While most rides go off as planned, you don’t want to find yourself stranded and unable to survive because you didn’t pack extra supplies. If your bike is damaged in a crash, you can talk to your motorcycle finance company to see what your options are.
